Data as public infrastructure: the collaboration between Openapi and Openpolis to monitor the state of suburbs.
Rome, February 11, 2026 – Openapi supported the Openpolis Foundation with certified data and advanced sub-municipal georeferencing in the report presented in a hearing before the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on safety conditions and the state of decay of cities and their suburbs.
Openpolis, an independent non-profit foundation, promotes access to public information, transparency, and democratic participation.
Openapi's contribution specifically involved sub-municipal georeferencing and the integration of certified datasets used for territorial analysis and mapping of sensitive services, with particular attention to services aimed at minors in metropolitan areas.
The report highlights the need to move beyond a purely geographic reading of suburbs, adopting a multidimensional approach based on granular, interoperable, and temporally comparable data. In this context, Openapi's API infrastructure enabled the normalization, validation, and integration of territorial information from official sources, making it immediately usable for analyses and visualizations at the neighborhood level.
“Data quality and interoperability are enabling conditions for truly effective public policies. Without shared standards and permanent digital infrastructures, it becomes difficult to plan, evaluate, and adjust interventions over time”, emphasizes Openapi.
The work carried out is part of a broader vision that sees data as public infrastructure: an essential tool to strengthen transparency, accountability, and decision-making capacity of institutions.
Openapi, an API platform born and developed in Europe, provides digital services that allow access to certified data and the integration of statistical and administrative sources, supporting public institutions, businesses, and organizations in digital transformation and the construction of advanced monitoring systems.
Participation in the report for the Parliamentary Committee on Suburbs confirms Openapi's commitment to promoting responsible, structured, and technologically advanced use of data to support territorial policies.
