New Judicial Registered Mail service: what it is and how it works

Send Legal Documents throughout Italy, in a secure and certified way, with legal validity and Poste Italiane guarantee.

Judicial Registered Mail

In recent months, we at Openapi have been working intensively on launching new solutions, with the goal of expanding our offering and better meeting the needs of those who choose to rely on our APIs.

The latest updates particularly concern the API Postal Service. After the introduction of international postal shipments, personalized cover services, and digital archiving, we have now launched – exclusively – another service: Judicial Registered Mail.

What is Judicial Registered Mail?

Available only on Openapi, Judicial Registered Mail allows you to send any type of legal document (registered letters under Articles 139, 140, 660 c.p.c. and 157 and 161 c.p.p.) in real-time via API. It holds full legal validity and is guaranteed by Poste Italiane.

The service includes the ability to:

  • Track the shipment
  • Request a delivery receipt
  • Make multiple shipments, without recipient limits (as long as they are not postal office boxes)

For this type of shipment, a return receipt (A/R) is required as proof of delivery.

Each notification can be addressed to private individuals or companies, making this service ideal for lawyers and legal offices handling large volumes of legal documents.

Acceptance Document and Digital Archiving

To ensure the legal validity and security of the documents, Judicial Registered Mail includes two additional free services:

  • Acceptance Document, which certifies the shipment and dispatch date
  • Digital Archiving: documents are digitally signed and stamped by Poste Italiane, ensuring authenticity and integrity. Files are available for download for up to 2 months

Cover Customization

There is a third free option, in addition to the two mentioned above: the service allows you to fully customize the cover. You can add, for example, logos, company information, promotions, or other specifics. Customization can be done directly via API or through the Playground, where you can also preview the document before sending it.

Shipping Times and Notification Management

The shipment of legal documents takes an average of 5 working days, with an additional 2 days for printing. If the recipient is absent, the registered letter will be deposited at the post office indicated on the delivery notice, with a 30-day retrieval period.

Cost Transparency

The service costs are detailed in the response to the API request. The price is calculated based on the number of pages and selected options, including:

  • Postal fees
  • Printing costs
  • Enveloping costs
